Embrace the 'Rescue Me' Spirit at 17 & Central This Recycle Week!
Recycle Week at 17 & Central!
The theme for this year’s UK Recycle Week (14th-20th October) is **Rescue Me** 🗑, and we at 17 & Central are thrilled to be part of this important initiative. Our commitment to recycling and sustainability is showcased through our wonderful donation station and various activities planned for the week.
Our Initiatives
Donation Station:
At our donation station, you can leave items you no longer need that can be used by someone in need. This includes a section for food donations where you can leave tinned goods for those in need or for the food bank.
Book Swap Cabinet:
Earlier this year, we installed a charming red telephone box cabinet in the centre that houses books for swapping. Bring a book, take a book – it’s that simple!
Clothes and Shoes Recycling:
We partner with TRAID to host a clothes and shoes recycling bank. In September alone, we diverted 568.8 kg of unwanted clothes and shoes from landfill, reducing carbon emissions by 4.82 tonnes and saving 908 m³ of water.
Zero Waste to Landfill:
As a shopping centre, we are proud to send zero waste to landfills. Last month, we reduced CO2 emissions by 26,238 tonnes, saved 193,372 m³ of water, saved 126 trees, and conserved 51,089 units of energy.
Events This Week
October 18th:
Representatives from the Waltham Forest Council will be at the centre promoting waste and food waste recycling to borough residents. The Council has launched a separate weekly food waste recycling collection impacting over 80,000 households, aiming for a net-zero borough by 2026.
October 19th-20th:
Celebrate recycling week with us and our resident purveyors of crafty fun, The Kids Table who will be making our CRATE caterpillar mascot, Stowie! with your leftover toilet rolls! Raid the recycling box and bring the little 'uns to transform junk to masterpieces on 19th and 20th October 12pm - 4pm. The crafting is free to our dining customers so grab a bite from our array of street food vendors, come on over to The Kids' Table and get creative! Min age 3yrs, parents / carers must stay with their children at all times.
Embracing 'Rescue Me'
We’re embracing the ‘Rescue Me’ theme by donating our old soft play kit to The Together Space, a social enterprise in Waltham Forest dedicated to reducing social segregation for children, families, and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). They offer inclusive events and employment opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities. Their activities include art workshops, exercise sessions, sensory spaces, and more, creating a safe and supportive environment for all families. Based in Waltham Forest, they aim to foster understanding and inclusion across diverse communities.
